The objectives of the MAF are summarized as the achievement of agricultural development plans & programs,the formulation of the agricultural policies and the initiation of relevant legislations for the interest of agricultural sector development.
Accordingly the MAF works on the creation of conducive environment for citizens to work in agricultural activities (Cropping, livestock & fishing),the establishment and management of research and applied studies centers and extension fields.and the cooperation with local government agents to spread vegetation and combat desertification and land degradation,the application of pests & epidemics control programs & strategies.
The MAF encourages private sector to contribute to plant & livestock development endeavors,supplies support to marketing of national production on an economical framework basis. and tightens control on quality and health safety measures of food and seed products in coordination with the other competent organizations and institutions.
It also aims to Cooperate and coordinate with the Gulf Cooperation Council states with to the agricultural and environmental issues.
In order to achieve its objectives,the MAF is empowered to initiate public policies and plans of MAF and supervise their implementation.to supervise MAF functioning and issure the required instructions and decrees.to supervise the public budget of MAF with the legal channels.to initiate legislations and laws needed for sustaining agricultural activities, and to represent MAF at the competent departments of governments.
