The College of Engineering was established in 1980, beginning with the Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Chemical & Petroleum Engineering, and then in 1981 the following three engineering departments were added; the Department of Architectural Engineering, the Department of Electrical Engineering, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Besides the five academic departments, the College has two other administrative units. In 1995, the College General Requirements Unit was established. This unit administers the College-wide first-year courses including all the courses offered to our students by other colleges including the College of Science and the College of Business. The Training and Graduation Projects Unit was initially established as part of the College General Requirements Unit and in 1999 it became an independent unit. This unit is responsible for coordinating the departments and for the industrial training (internship) program and the senior design projects with the academic departments. Typically, students entering the College of Engineering in the first year will study topics in engineering sciences as well as basic sciences and mathematics taught with engineering applications. All courses offered in the College are taught in English. Today, the five departments offer bachelor degrees in seven different programs/streams.
