Mode of Election

Made of 144 members. 96 are elected (indirect elections amongst members of popular counsils of the Wilayat and members of local administration): 2 members per Wilaya. Duration of mandate 6 years, half of the counsil is renewed every 3 years. Last renewal in January 2004.
