Television was established in 1960 by a decision of the late president Gamal Abd Al Nasr.

The board of trustees was founded on 13/August/1970.
Constitutional Framework
According to the fourth article of law no 13 of the year 1979, concerning the Radio and Television union, as well as amendments of
law no 323 of the year 1989; the Union should have a board of trustees. Hence, a decision of its formation was issued by the Prime Minister. The president of the board of trustees has the right to choose the members of its permanent and ad hoc committees, with the approval of the minister of information.
