The PSP was founded by the 6 following persons, who happened to be of different backgrounds:
Kamal Joumblatt, born in a deeply rooted political Lebanese family, a political leader and a philosopher. He holds university degrees in Law and Sociology. During his political career, he was elected several times deputy in the Lebanese parliament.
Farid Joubran, an auditor and a deputy in the Lebanese Parliament.
Albert Adeeb, the owner of the Magazine “Al Adib”.
Abdallah Alayli, a graduate of the Azhar University, a researcher and a writer. He drafted the text of the Charter of the Socialist Progressive Party.
Fouad Rizk, a licensed in Law.
Georges Hanna, a medical Doctor
The foundation of the party was announced on the first of May 1949 and its Charter was declared during a press conference that was held at Kamal Joumblatt’s residence in Beirut.
In 1950 the party expanded its base from the Founders elite to the popular mass.
On April the first, the party has inaugurated its headquarters in Beirut and several branches were established in the districts of Zahla, Chouf, Rashaya, Baalbeck, Jubeil.
