Maronite history began at the end of the 4th and beginning of the 5th century. the early Maronite community was formed around the monastic community named after St. Maroon in Syria. In 685, elected its own patriarch of Antioch and by the 12th century united with Rome. The Liturgy is in Syriac and Arabic.
