Mission and Purposes of JMD
°Establishment of observations network and forecast offices.
°Establishment of rapid communication systems for National and International data and products exchange to fulfill international commitments.
°Provision Services for Aviation, Marine, Agriculture, Hydrology, Environment and other Economic sectors and issuance of related warnings and forecasts.
°Promotion of research and training in the different fields of meteorology.
History
The Meteorological service started as a Meteorological office at Amman Airport in 1951 and a Meteorological office at Jerusalem Airport in 1952.
* On 11/7/1955, it became a member with the WMO
* Independent Department within the Ministry of Transport in 1967.
