General Description
Functions of the Rescue Police:
Seizing of criminals and crime scenes.
Maintaining patrols and preserving public order.
Monitoring traffic and extending help to traffic police.
Handling calls from the public and relaying them to the appropriate operation rooms for action.
Extending humanitarian services under normal and emergency conditions.
Facilitating the movement of official motorcades and providing arrangements for their security.
Escorting vehicles transporting detainees and convicts on their way to the rehabilitation centers.
History
The Rescue Police was established in 1967 as a section of the metropolitan police directorate. Gradually similar sections were established in most other police directorates. On 10 February 1999, Rescue Police was restructured to become a section of the Emergency & Rescue Police
