Since its establishment in 1991, the Social Fund has played a major role in the field of development in Egypt. The Fund was first designed to work as a social security system linked to the implementation of the economic reform and structural adjustment program by the Egyptian government, which made its establishment crucial for the success of this program. Because it is one of the leading institutions in the field of economic efficiency and in providing human resources with a high degree of proficiency, as well as suitable environment for human development, the Social Fund has succeeded in becoming a fully developing institution that undertakes many missions such as creating mechanisms that can comprehend the output of globalization, mobilizing efforts to reduce the dangers of social exclusion, helping ease extreme poverty, and facing unemployment. Thus the Fund creates more job opportunities for owners of small new projects, as well as providing them with insurance packages and technical support. It also helps them acquire the necessary skills for success, and supply them with technological knowledge whether it is Egyptian or international.
The Social Fund for development seeks to create job opportunities for newly graduates, unemployed youth, and people with limited income.
It also works on directing more public investment into social, health, education, and environmental services.
In addition to finding mechanisms that protect vulnerable groups that include women, children, and elderly people, and improve their living standards.
On the one hand, it attempts at the participation of non governmental and private volunteering association in implementing projects aimed at more exposed groups of the society.
On the other hand, it strives for strengthening its partnership with governmental authorities and all major effective bodies in the process of decision making.
It works for a reproduction of the Social Fund pattern all around the world.
Mode of Finance
The Social Fund is considered as an independent institution ran by an administrative board that works under the leadership of the Prime Minister, in addition to a secretariat general composed of the Fund’s secretary general and the board of employers. The secretary general is in charge of managing the secretariat general affairs and representing the Fund in local and international gatherings.
