The company was established in 1881 and nationalized in 1961. The company is mainly engaged in sugar manufacturing and refining. From 1981 until 1993, the company has faced many merges to add to the company′s main activity. The result is that the company now operates in many fields such as paper manufacturing, chemical and organic chemical production, cosmetic and perfuming flavors extraction. It exports many of its products such as sugar, yeast, molasses, wood, capital equipment and cosmetics to Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, Sudan and Libya) and to European countries as Belgium, Greece, East Europe, Romania, Turkey, France and England
