The story of General Organization for Government Printing Offices at Boulaq dates back for 178 years ago. It was established in 1820 A.D. and was inaugurated officially in 1821 by El-Wali Mohamed Ali Pasha. It was developed whereas it printed literary scientific and educational books.
The former President Gamal Abdel Nasser issued on 13th August 1956 the decree No. 312 for 1956 to form The General Organization for Government Printing Offices . It was affiliated Ministry of Industry.
The Board of Directors held its first meeting at the beginning of September 1956 A.D under the leadership of Dr. Eng. Aziz Sidiq the Minister of Industry .
Since that date the ministry of Industry decided to build a new building for Organization in Embaba area on about 35000 square meters, to be able to perform its mission. The Ministry of Industry supplied it with the most modern of developed printing machines. New departments were created such as :

Scanner Dept.
Offset Printing
The Automatic Binding Line
Computer Dept.
The new building was inaugurated at the era of the former President Mohamed Anwar El sadat by Minister of Industry the eng. Ibrahim Saem Mohamedeen on the 28th Jumada Al-Akhera 1393 A.H the 28th of July 1973 A.D.
It was considered as an economical organization , according to the decision of the Prime Minister No. 1039/1979.
One of the recent authorizations commanded by Eng. Soliman Reda Aly Minister of Industry and Mineral Wealth is to innovate and modernize all the machines and the equipment in order to catch up the modern international developments in various fields of printing arts such as equipment and scanner. The Organization can achieve a high standard in printing technology to be on the same level with the advanced international printing housess.
He also called for establishing a modern training center to train and providing well-trained skillful technical workers in the various fields of printing arts. The main aim is to supply the labour market needs for his quality in the domain of high standard of printing on the national and the arab level.
