The Emirates Medical Association (EMA) has been established in the year 1980, beginning with a membership of 136 doctors practicing in the UAE. The membership this year has reached around 2000 members comprising of physicians, dentists and also pharmacists. All these members are scientifically certified from credited universities. The main office of the EMA is located in Dubai with a branch office in Abu Dhabi. The official languages used in the Association are Arabic as the main language and English as a second language. The Aims of the Association is to develop Medicine and Science related to it, to keep the ethics of the profession, to support its members, to co-operate with Government Medical Establishments and other Medical organizations in the country, and also to improve the medical knowledge among the citizens.
The other objectives are to improve the doctors′ scientific performance through continuing medical education and conferences, to give suggestions in organizing the practice of medicine and medical rules. It is of great help to local students who are studying medicine in other countries by its co-operation with Ministry of Higher Education to communicate with foreign universities.
Mode of Election
The Association′s administrative management has on its Board seven members elected by the General Assembly every two years.
The member to be elected for the management administration must be an UAE national. The Board of Directors consists of the following: President, Vice-president, General Secretary, Treasurer, Chairman Culture Committee, Chairman Social Committee and Member.
