The General Education Department (GED) offers all courses pertaining to humanities, social sciences, and the natural and applied sciences in Dubai University College. The department works hand in hand with other colleges at DUC in order to assess their needs in the area of general education.
The objective of the General Education Department is to:
Educate Dubai University College students in the areas of the humanities, social sciences, modern technology, mathematics, languages, communication skills and natural and applied science;
Develop students’ skills in critical thinking and effective reasoning, as well as their skills in evaluating others’ explanations and arguments;
Improve students’ ability to understand or develop new ideas and to present them to others;
Broaden students’ perspectives to ideas shaping the world around them, and helping them to see their roles in the community;
Promote students’ acquisition of basic skills and the expansion of their intellectual and aesthetic horizons;
Develop students’ skills in other essential areas of modern knowledge, including research, computing and information technology;
Put students in direct contact with UAE society, and all-important political, economic and socio-cultural events that have shaped UAE society as well as the Arab and Islamic world;
Provide a grounding in the wealth of human experience and the necessity of taking diversity into account throughout students’ life;
Prepare students with the tools and talents needed to manage future roles in family, community, workplace, and society;
Equip and inspire students to become a lifelong learner.
