The Center for English as a Second Language (CESL), as part of DUC, has a vital role ensuring students are competent users of English and can communicate effectively in this English medium university. It is the mission of CESL to provide a variety of courses to meet the English language needs of the students enrolled in academic programs, as well as to the wider community including corporate clients. To meet these diverse needs we have created a wide selection of courses. In addition to this, we tailor courses to the language proficiency and needs of the students making learning an accessible and enjoyable experience regardless of the entry-level skills of the learner. CESL offers semester long courses and short courses, which can be customized to provide English for Special Purposes (ESP).
Students studying English at CESL may be taking academic courses towards a Bachelor’s Degree; they may be Intensive English students who are at the first stage of their studies; or they may be already in the workforce and studying for a specific skill such as business report writing. At all levels of language study CESL offers courses which maximize learning opportunities through utilization of educational media to provide a range of experiences with the encouragement of dedicated, experienced professionals in the field of second language teaching.
