The Translation major provides the student with a thorough understanding of the traditional and linguistic theories of translation, application of these theories to the practice of literary and technical translation. It trains the student to take the meaning of a text written in one language and represent that meaning in another.
Bilingual skills are an important goal of the program. Courses in Arabic Morphology and Lexicography and English semantics and pragmatics as well as academic writing and genre analysis are important components of the program.
