The University of Sharjah offers the first program in the UAE leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The program is offered in affiliation with McMaster University School of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, Hamilton, Canada.
There are two streams within the BScN Program
1. Stream A: The Four Year program is designed for graduates of secondary schools, or for students who transfer into nursing from other university programs. The program takes a minimum of four years of full-time study,
Courses in the four year program include:

- Theory and clinical practice courses where students learn to provide nursing care to individuals, families and communities with a variety of health issues in varied health care settings
- Biological Science courses, including Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology .
- Health Science courses, including Research Methods, and Nursing Management and Leadership
- Elective and required courses selected from department and university courses, including Arabic and Islamic Studies, English and Sociology

2. Stream B: The Bridging/ Post-diploma program is available to Diploma Registered Nurses only. This program builds on previous education and experience, to expand the career options available within nursing. The program may be taken over two years of full-time study. Part-time study is also available, with students usually taking 2-3 courses per term. Students are given advanced credit hours for their nursing diploma.
Courses in the Bridging/ Post-diploma program include:

- Advanced theory courses in health assessment, communication, health education and health promotion and nursing
- Clinical experience in areas of the student’s choice, including nursing education, administration and advanced practice
- Health Science courses, including Research Methods, Nursing Management and Leadership
- Elective and required courses selected from department and university Arts and Sciences courses
