· Geotechnical Engineering
· Materials and Construction Engineering
· Water Resources
· Environmental Engineering
· Surveying and Photogrammetry
The department offers a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering. The degree program is designed to reflect the needs of the United Arab Emirates and the region in the development of natural resources and infrastructure for the benefit of the population.
The current curriculum is of 4-years duration and covers a broad range of the main Civil Engineering disciplines. Subjects in various areas are introduced through weekly lectures and tutorials whereby emphasis is placed on both theory and design. Laboratory classes are used alongside some of the courses to develop practical engineering skills and basic knowledge, and reinforce the theory presented in the lectures. In addition, students are required to undertake a feasibility study and develop a complete analysis and design of an engineering project in one of the major areas of civil engineering. Some flexibility in fields of study is provided by a choice of departmental electives in different areas of Civil Engineering. The entire study program is aimed at equipping graduates for their professional careers in consulting, construction, planning and management.
The Department’s aims to become a well-recognized entity of excellence in teaching and research in the region and to develop training and outreach programs for the benefit of the local community. The Department’s goals and objectives include, but are not limited to:
Graduating qualified engineers equipped with essential skills and knowledge to comprehend and deal with modern Civil Engineering trends.
Keeping up with up-to-date advances in Civil Engineering disciplines through continuous review, evaluation and modification of the curriculum.
Promoting scientific research and studies which address local, regional and world-wide problems
Establishing strong co-operation with local, regional and international companies and agencies to enhance and nourish the education process and scientific research.
