An active continuing medical education programme is pursued through clinical meetings and grand rounds.
SERVICE
The University Department of Surgery works in harmony with the Ministry of Health in both Tawam and Al Ain Hospitals; thus, wherever possible, ‘units’ comprising both Faculty and Ministry of Health surgeons work together.
In Al Ain Hospital, Professor Branicki and Mr Siddiqui work in one of the three general surgical units and Mr Sankaran Kutty has assignments in the Orthopaedic unit. Professor Ljunggren is in the Neurosurgical unit at Tawam Hospital and Professor Tjernström works in the ENT departments at both Al Ain and Tawam Hospitals. Specialist expertise has been developed in cervical spine injuries (Professor Ljunggren), club foot (congenital talipes equinovarus) surgery (Mr Sankaran Kutty) and head and neck cancer (Professor Tjernström). Dr Saeed Al Bakr is currently on secondment at Mafraq Hospital, Abu Dhabi and Dr Saeed Al Thani is on secondment at the University of Toronto, Canada.
