The department of Mathematics and Computer Science aims to teach the students a wide range of courses to increase their knowledge through teaching and learning. It also provides them with a scientific foundation that is suitable for research in Mathematics/Computer Science and/or to provide them with the appropriate experience and expertise to contribute positively to the community or to pursue their higher education if they desire.
The Mathematics & Computer Science department comprises two divisions: Mathematics and Computer Science, each offering a B.Sc.degree.
Division of Mathematics
The Division of Mathematics aims at building up the mathematics foundation of graduates enabling them to pursue careers either in higher studies or in various applied fields. This division is further separated into two subdivisions: Pure Mathematics and Applied mathematics. The former is concerned with fundamental areas of algebra, mathematical analysis, and pure and analytic geometry, whereas the latter division is concerned with the mathematical foundation of applied disciplines such as physics, engineering, economics and biology.
The graduates of mathematics can choose either to continue their higher studies or find word opportunities in research, meteorology, statistical fields in governmental organizations, banks or in the field of education. Research and studies related to the real needs of Emirates society are accorded top priority by the academic staff.
Division of Computer Science
The academic program of this Division aims at the training and graduation of specialists in the various fields of computer science. Special attention is accorded to the elucidation of computer functioning, computer languages, networks and the utilization of computers in graphics, artificial intelligence and database systems.
The graduates of computer science can choose either to continue their higher studies or find word opportunities in banks,companies,telecommunication, and in education. Research and studies related to the real needs of Emirates society are accorded top priority by the academic staff.
