General Description
Statistics provides decision makers with the scientific basis for problem formulation, collection and analysis of data and drawing sound inferences from the given information.
In the past decade, the emergence of a global economy and the increasing focus on quality of product and services on one hand and the recognition of the role of statistics in designing and controlling the production process on the other, has made statistics an integral part of modem management in any competitive organization .
Moreover by providing techniques that establish and analyze structure and trends in the data together with a methodology for quantifying uncertainty, statistics is widely used in all fields of research today.
In practice, nearly all the problems encountered by the statistician involve solutions utilizing computers. It is thus necessary for the modem statistician to have an extensive working experience with computers and statistical packages.
