The mission of the College of Information Systems is to produce graduates recognized by business, government, and educational entities in the United Arab Emirates, the region, and the rest of the world as having sound, current, and comprehensive education in information systems.
The goal of the program in Information Systems is to produce graduates who
are adaptable;
have a capacity for self-directed learning;
have good communication skills;
have a strong work ethic;
have an understanding of business process and structure;
have sound IT skills based on a solid understanding of communication networks, databases, programming and project management skills; and,
have the capacity to identify, implement, and integrate new applications into existing human/computer systems.
The program is practical, competency-based and designed to expose the students to real-world problems through internship opportunities with various businesses and industries of the United Arab Emirates.
The College′s Academic Program
Zayed University students who major in Information Systems will focus on advanced uses of the computer, the Internet and information systems, while applying and developing their skills in Arabic and English. At the conclusion of their program, ZU graduates will have been exposed to such subjects as
the role of information technology in global and Islamic society;
the development of Internet business sites and electronic commerce;
the role of information systems in business and government;
fundamentals of computer programming, data analysis and networking; and,
database concepts, applications and design.
The ZU graduate who specializes in Information Systems will have a broad understanding of her society and a detailed educational and internship experience with the information technologies that will become increasingly important in her world. She will be qualified to fill a variety of positions in business, to teach introductory concepts of information technology, to employ information technology in the administration of libraries and to employ computers in governmental applications. She also will be prepared to participate as an educated citizen in the life of her community.
