Chemetall′s Fine Chemicals Business Unit consists of the Special Metals and Friction Materials divisions. Both provide sophisticated metal compounds for chemical processes and demanding applications.
Special Metal Divison
The Special Metal division of the Chemetall Group offers its clients a range of products which is unique in the world and includes cesium, zirconium, titanium and barium compounds for the most demanding applications. Cesium is for example used in the biotechnology industry, glass production and chemical processes such as PMMA, sulphuric acid synthesis and ammonia synthesis which requires a purity of 99.9999%.
Chemetall′s zirconium and titanium products are primarily used in pyrotechnics, e.g. in trigger mechanisms for airbags. Barium compounds are particularly used as so-called getter material, e.g. in production of cathode-ray tubes.
These special metals are produced at the Langelsheim works near to Goslar, Germany.
Friction Materials
Natural and synthetic metal sulphides complete the range of products in the Fine Chemicals business unit. Friction materials stabilize and enhance the power and performance of braking systems or they act as fillers in cutting disks for perfect cut edges and longer tool-life. the materials concerned are produced at Arnoldstein, Austria.
The Friction Materials and Abrasives Additives Business is run by Chemetall Ges.m.b.H which has its headquarters in Vienna, Austria.
