The Ministry of Justice is responsible for the administration of Shari′ah Law and the provision of legal services for all Saudi citizens.
Constitutional Framework
The Minister of Justice, appointed by the King from among the country′s ulama, is the de facto chief justice. He′s assisted by the Supreme Judicial Council, a body of eleven members chosen from the leading ulama of the country. Since 1983, the minister of justice has also served as chief of the Supreme Judicial Council.
Power Limitation
The Minister of Justice is appointed and can be dismissed by the King who remains the final court of appeal and source of pardon.
